Free, specialist cancer information and support coming to Lewisham

Free, confidential support and information about cancer is coming to Lewisham on Thursday 3rd September, provided by specialists on board Macmillan Cancer Support's mobile service. Anyone is welcome to drop by and ask questions, pick up information or simply chat through worries they may have – no appointment necessary.

A cancer diagnosis can affect everything, not just your health. The financial impact might not be something you'd think about, but cancer can bring unexpected costs such as travel to hospital or increased fuel bills, or you may be unable to work. The Macmillan information and support specialists can provide you with information about financial support and services that may be able to help, and can talk through any worries you may have – simply drop by for a visit.

Cathryn Gort, a Macmillan Information and Support Specialist on the unit, says, "It's really important that people affected by cancer are able to access the advice and support they need, including the financial support they may be eligible for, so they can focus on what's most important: their health. We can help signpost people to Macmillan benefits advisers who can provide free, confidential advice. We are here to answer any question or concern related to cancer so do come along and see us."

Dr Esther Appleby, Clinical Lead for Cancer at NHS Lewisham CCG said: "We are delighted that the Macmillan Cancer Support Mobile Service will be visiting Lewisham on September 3rd. This is a valuable opportunity for anyone affected by cancer or who simply wants to learn more to speak to them. If you can't get to visit personally on the 3rd then they can be contacted on their free phone number below."
