Celebrating NHS 70 at Lewisham People's Day
Lewisham People's Day is south east London's longest-running free festival. It is a celebration of music, art, craft and community, which attracts over 25,000 visitors each year. This was the 34th People's Day, which had hundreds of performances across seven stages, craft stalls and great food and drink. We shared a marquee with our Lewisham Health and Care Partners, to promote well-being messages and celebrate the NHS70 anniversary.
It was great to see all the positive energy and responses from local people who signed our giant birthday card. One resident, Laurence, whose children were born at Lewisham Hospital, gave us a lovely rendition of 'happy birthday' before being the first to sign the birthday card. Other messages included:
'Wow, 70 years, Happy Birthday! Hoping for many more years. Well done'
'Thank you for all the lives you save every day'
'Happy birthday NHS! Keep up the fantastic work you do 24h/24, 7d/7. Xxx'
'Thanks NHS, you saved my life. Forever grateful'
'Happy birthday! How blooming lucky are we to have you! Here's to another 70. Love. Lisa
People's Day is a fantastic opportunity to talk to residents from all over the borough, we wanted to know if people knew what the CCG is and if they were aware of the challenges and opportunities we face in 2018/19, which we collected in a survey. It was interesting to talk and hear from residents about their perspectives and these conversations will help us with our engagement work moving forward.
Check out some of our pictures from the day.
In addition to our birthday card we were carrying out our Health MOT questionnaire to help residents to think about ways they can take better care of themselves. There was a selection of health promotional tables inside our marquee including cancer prevention, self-care, maternity services, community falls team, sexual health, community paediatrics team and school health services, OASIS – preventative mental health team, NHS Health Checks and National Diabetes Prevention Programme hosted by Lewisham Health and Care Partners.
The day was a great way to encourage people in Lewisham to use the right service, when they are not feeling well, there are a number of service available to help people stay well and seek health advice when they need it including self-care, Pharmacy First Scheme, help from your pharmacy, Lewisham GP Extended Access (GPEA) in Lewisham and our malaria prevention campaign.
If you were unable to attend People's Day and would like to find out more about the work we are doing in the community please register your interest and we will keep you updated.
