We have been rated as 'good' by NHS England in the 2018/19 ratings, an improvement from 'requires improvement' 12 months ago.

Managing Director Martin Wilkinson writes:

I'm delighted that we have been rated 'good' in NHS England's annual assurance process, 12 months on from being identified as 'requires improvement'.

The CCG Improvement and Assessment Framework (IAF) is an assurance process which is intended to provide confidence to stakeholders and the wider public that CCGs are operating effectively. And that they commission high-quality, sustainable – and above all – safe services while respecting finite NHS resources.

At Lewisham CCG we have been recognised for our leadership, engagement with our stakeholders and our financial management.

We have also experienced considerable success in several key clinical areas, receiving outstanding performance ratings for dementia, maternity and diabetes and a good rating for mental health commissioning.

We were rated Green overall for the Patient and Community Engagement indicator, this is a significant improvement on last year when we were rated amber. Our score has increased from 7 to 13. The assessment found good examples of work across all domains, with excellent examples given for annual reporting, day to day practice and equality and health inequalities.

In March 2019 NHS England lifted legal directions that they served on the CCG (due to long standing performance problems with local urgent and emergency services) in recognition of the significant improvements made.

Of course, there are areas where we know there is room for improvement. These include access to Children and Young People's mental health services and the time between diagnosis and treatment of patients with cancer. These are areas that will continue to demand our focus, and we will continue to work hard to deliver improvements for the people of Lewisham.

But, in conclusion, we've made significant and sustained progress over the past year, and I'm pleased for all of our residents. I would like to thank all of our CCG staff and GP members, who have worked so hard and our providers who have worked with us to put in place so many improvements.
