Table Talk launches to help inform senior residents

Table talk.jpgOn Wednesday 23 January we took part in the launch of Table Talk at Blackheath Age Exchange. The new initiative aims to help inform senior residents throughout the borough, with the help of volunteers. They will visit different areas of Lewisham, with leaflets, information, a table and the desire to engage with the older population.

There are many clubs and activities taking place across the borough, and Table Talk will increase awareness of them.  Helping residents find the advice they need and activities that will interest them, keep them active and connect them with others. Activities range from seated yoga, reggae line dancing, Spanish lessons and local campaigns ranging from advice on avoiding scams to help with fuel poverty.

Table Talk kindly allowed us to display our leaflets and share information on Use the Right Service, GP Extended Access and our Review of Interpreting Services in Lewisham, Southwark and Lambeth.

Rachel Ellis, Lewisham resident said:

"The Table Talks start. So good to be working with so many great organisations to keep older people informed. We spoke to about 10 members of the public some of whom were very enthusiastic about what we were doing and were interested in the Lewisham Wellbeing Map. Enquiries ranged from wanting to know about gardening and computer projects to where to get electrical goods mended. Luckily we could find information on all of these."

After a successful launch, it is hoped that future events will continue to grow, inform and connect the older population of Lewisham.
