NHS Lewisham Clinical Commissioning Group is pleased to confirm that following our recent Governing Body elections, our new Chair is Dr Marc Rowland.
As a GP who has worked in Lewisham for 36 years Dr Rowland is very well qualified for the role. As well as having a long history in clinical leadership locally, he has been involved in the development of NHS Lewisham Clinical Commissioning Group as a clinical director since it came into being in shadow form in April 2011.
Commenting on his appointment Dr Rowland said “We are going through a lot of change in the NHS but I know that as clinical commissioners we have the energy and expertise, working with local people and organisations, to achieve the best possible health services for Lewisham. We have ambitious plans to reduce health inequalities and further integrate health and social care services. To do this we will all need to look at working differently. I look forward to working with residents and all our healthcare providers to make positive change happen.”
The other GPs re-elected to the Governing Body are Dr David Abraham, Dr Faruk Majid, Dr Hilary Entwistle, Dr Judy Chen, and Dr Arun Gupta. It is great news that NHS Lewisham Clinical Commissioning Group has retained the enthusiasm and experience of existing Governing Body members, which puts local clinically led commissioning in a strong position moving forward. This leaves one clinical director vacancy which will be advertised imminently to all eligible GPs in the borough.
Dr Rowland will officially come into post from 1st September 2013, and will be chairing the next Governing Body meeting held in public on 5th September at Lewisham Town Hall.
Dr Helen Tattersfield, the current NHS Lewisham CCG Chair, decided to step down from the Governing Body in order to concentrate on her work as a GP in Downham.
Dr Tattersfield said, “It has been a privilege to be part of the creation of Lewisham Clinical Commissioning Group, which has already made significant improvements in local healthcare and has consistently spoken up for the needs of Lewisham residents. I have not stood as Chair again as I want to focus on the needs of my GP practice and feel the time is right to hand this responsibility to someone who will be able to devote the time and energy required to lead the CCG through the coming year”.
Martin Wilkinson, Chief Officer at NHS Lewisham CCG said, “Speaking on behalf of everyone at NHS Lewisham Clinical Commissioning Group, I would like to thank our outgoing Chair, Dr Helen Tattersfield, who has been an inspirational leader and a true champion of clinically led commissioning through quite challenging times. Her energy and passion for Lewisham health services has driven us through the authorisation process and into our first six months as a statutory body. I hope you will join me in wishing Helen all the best as she returns full time to clinical practice.
