Lewisham CCG Governing Body elections
Dr Helen Tattersfield, Chair of NHS Lewisham Clinical Commissioning Group has announced that she is not standing again as Chair of the CCG. An election process with local GPs is currently underway and a new Chair is due to be announced in August 2013.
Dr Tattersfield, a GP for 23 years, became Chair of Lewisham CCG in 2011 when it was working in shadow before formally taking over the statutory responsibility for commissioning most of the healthcare services in Lewisham on 1 April 2013.
Helen was responsible for leading the organisation through this shadow phase and the national CCG authorisation process, a detailed and robust process undertaken by NHS England to ensure that CCGs were capable and ready to fulfil their commissioning responsibilities.
Dr Tattersfield said, “It has been a privilege to be part of the creation of Lewisham CCG, which has already made significant improvements in local healthcare and has consistently spoken up for the needs of Lewisham residents. I am not standing as Chair again as I want to focus on the needs of my GP practice and feel the time is right to hand this responsibility to someone who will be able to devote the time and energy required to lead the CCG through the coming year”.
“I believe that clinical commissioning is the best model of commissioning that I have experienced in my 23 years as a GP and with strong and effective leadership can achieve the best health outcomes for our local population. The focus in Lewisham over the next few years will be on helping people to stay healthy, caring for the most frail and vulnerable in our communities and supporting those people with or at risk of long term conditions such as diabetes, heart and lung disease to live healthier lives and avoid getting really ill.”
